MCME's live map at map.mcmiddleearth.com shows the MCME servers from above, as they are right now. You can pan around Middle-earth, follow builds as they grow, find places and players, and see who is online, all from your browser. If you are logged in to the server and your rank allows it, you can even teleport your character by clicking on the map.
Moving around
| To do this | Do this |
|---|---|
| Pan | Click and drag, or swipe on a phone |
| Zoom | Mouse wheel, pinch, or the + and - buttons |
| Open or close the sidebar | The menu button at the top right |
| See coordinates | The bottom-left corner shows the X, Y and Z under your cursor |
Keyboard shortcuts use Ctrl + Shift (Cmd + Shift on a Mac): M for the server and map list, I for markers, P for players and L for layers.
Areas that have never been loaded in the game have no map tiles and show as flat grey.
Switching servers and worlds
The sidebar lists the servers (the main world, Moria, the plot world and more) and, for the server you are looking at, its worlds. Pick a server to load its map. The map opens on the main world by default.
Finding places and players
The search bar at the top searches every server at once:
- Type at least two letters.
- The results show matching markers (named places) and players who are online. Part of a name is enough:
rivendfinds Rivendell. - Click a result to go there. If it is on another server, the map switches to that server for you.
Press Esc to close the results.
Players online
The sidebar's Players list shows who is on the server you are viewing. Click a name to centre the map on that player and follow them.
Below it, the Network section lists players on the other MCME servers, with the server each one is on. Click one to jump to their server and position. This list updates every few seconds.
Markers and layers
Markers are grouped into sets, such as warps and paths. You can show or hide sets in the sidebar's markers section, or with the layers button on the map. Related sets are grouped: click a group's heading to open or close it. A layer that is dimmed can't be shown at your current zoom level; zoom in or out.
The Aa button on the left of the map shows or hides the names next to markers. The map remembers your choice in this browser.
Sharing a location
Right-click the map (long-press on a phone) to open the map menu:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| The coordinates | Copies the coordinates of that spot |
| Copy link | Copies a link that opens the map at exactly this view: server, world, position and zoom |
| Center here | Centres the map on that spot |
| Teleport here | Teleports your character there. Only shown when web teleport is available to you, see below |
Teleporting from the map
If you are online on the server and your rank includes web teleport, you can travel by clicking the map:
- Log in to the Minecraft server.
- Open the map in your browser.
- Check the badge in the bottom-left corner. When the map has recognised you, it shows your head and name.
- Right-click the spot you want to go to and choose Teleport here.
You land on the highest block at that spot, so you never end up inside the ground. If the spot is on another server, you are moved to that server first; you don't need to switch yourself. A green message confirms the teleport.
There is a short cooldown between teleports. Try again too soon and the map tells you how many seconds are left, for example "Cooldown: 5s remaining".
If Teleport here doesn't appear, either the map hasn't recognised you (see the next section) or your rank doesn't include web teleport.
If the map doesn't recognise you
The map usually recognises you by itself. That can fail, for example on a VPN. The badge then says Link Account. Link by hand:
-
In Minecraft, type:
/weblinkYou get a 6-character code in chat. Click it to copy it. The code works once and expires after 5 minutes.
-
On the map, click the Link Account badge.
-
Enter the code and confirm.
The badge now shows your character, and teleporting works. The link lasts until you log out of the server. Asking for a new code cancels the old one.
If several people play from the same home network, the map may ask you to pick your own name from a list before you can teleport.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Try this |
|---|---|
| The map keeps loading | That server may be restarting. Pick another server and come back later. |
| Players seem frozen | Refresh the page. If everyone on one server is frozen, the problem is on the server side. |
| Search finds nothing | Type at least two letters. If you opened the map a long time ago, refresh it. |
| The badge shows someone else | You share a network with another player. Pick yourself from the list, or use /weblink. |
/weblink code doesn't work |
It may have expired or been used. Type /weblink again for a new code. |
For staff
Staff with the
mcmewebteleport.teleport.otherspermission get an extra item in the map menu.
Teleport other... opens a list of everyone online on the network, with a search box. Click a player to teleport them to the spot you right-clicked. They are moved to the right server if needed. Teleporting others has no cooldown, and every such teleport is logged with your name.
Staff with mcmewebteleport.debug can type /webdebug in game to help when someone's badge won't show up.
