Minecraft Middle-earth (MCME) is a community that is building J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth in Minecraft. The server runs on Minecraft: Java Edition. Anyone can join to explore; most building happens in organised jobs. This page gets you connected.
Connect
-
Start Minecraft: Java Edition, version 26.2.
-
Open Multiplayer → Add Server.
-
Enter the server address:
build.mcmiddleearth.com -
Set Server Resource Packs to Enabled, click Done, and join.
The resource pack
MCME's builds use custom textures and models, so the server sends you a resource pack when you join. Accept it, or Middle-earth will look like plain Minecraft and many blocks will look wrong.
If you joined without the pack, select the server in your multiplayer list, click Edit, set Server Resource Packs to Enabled, and rejoin. When Minecraft asks whether to download the pack, choose Yes.
Different regions use different packs, and the server switches them for you as you travel. You can also choose a pack yourself with /rp. See Resource packs on the Architect page.
Mods (optional)
Plain Minecraft works. If you want better performance or shaders, MCME's installer sets up Fabric with the mods MCME's packs are made for. Download it from the MCME Installer releases, run it, and start Minecraft with the profile it creates. To update, run the newest installer again.
MCME's packs are not made for OptiFine or Forge. If the server notices them, it tells you what to do on your first visit (see below).
Your first visit
The first time you join, you go through a short welcome on the hub. If your game version or mods need attention, an extra screen explains what to do. It may ask you to type a command to continue:
| Command | When to use it |
|---|---|
/confirm optifine |
You use OptiFine only for performance and have followed the advice on screen |
/confirm ignore |
You understand the warning and want to continue anyway |
After the welcome, tips appear in the corner of your screen for a while.
Getting around
/warp <place>takes you to a named place, for example/warp Rivendell. See Warps.- The live map shows the whole network in your browser, and can teleport you if your rank allows it.
